Panasonic SDR-H101

Panasonic's dual-hard-drive/SD card camcorder delivers average quality. It's not a terrible camcorder, but it's not one that stands out, and the lack of HD recording is a notable omission.

Dual HDD/SD recording ; 78x enhanced optical zoom ; Good hand grip

No HD recording options ; Bulky battery ; Can be twitchy about recording to SD card

The SDR-H101 is a fair camcorder, but it's not a great one. Our largest gripe with it is really a pricing one. As we tested this concurrently with the SD80, we were able to compare shot quality quite closely. While the SD80 does cost more, the price...

Review: Panasonic SDR-H101

An adjustable cushioned leather grip strap is present on one side, making it suitable to be held comfortably with the right hand. Of course that leaves left-handed people in the lurch, but such is usually the case with just about any of the camcorders...

Compact size and light; Good image quality; 70x optical zoom; Optical image stabilization; 80 GB hard drive + SD HC storage; Good battery life; Zoom microphone works well

Poor performance in dim environment; Lens-glare issues; No headphone jack; Power button can be occasionally unresponsive
