Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD review

But the Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD uses that three-chip sensor to make up for each individual sensor's anaemic 1/6in size. There are many great features on the HDC-SD100, but image quality isn't one of them.

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 provides a great set of well-implemented tools that are in the right place at the right price. Unfortunately, poor connection placement and poor imaging make it hard to recommend this camera.

Panasonic HDC-SD100

Panasonic makes the move to a trio of CMOS sensors in its HDC-SD100 - and James likes the results. Now updated with Video Review.

In previous camcorder eras, Panasonic has excelled at providing models with comprehensive features for the enthusiast. Its NV-GS400 was the last great ‘prosumer’ DV model. Until the HDC-SD100 arrived, no manufacturer had combined AVCHD with quite that...

Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD

Panasonic's small and conveniently packed Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD camcorder uses a three-chip image sensor, a rarity in the consumer camcorder market.

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 provides a great set of well-implemented tools that are in the right place at the right price. Unfortunately, poor connection placement and poor imaging make it hard to recommend this camera.

Panasonic HDC-HS100 HD review

The Panasonic HDC-HS100 HD camcorder is a better camera than it's predecessor the Panasonic HDC-HS9, with improved image quality and great usability.

If the images from Panasonic's HDC-HS100 equaled the camcorder's great handling and usability, this model would be a clear winner. The HS100 provides the best controls we've seen in a small HD camcorder, but the images lag behind those of AVCHD...

Panasonic HDC-SD100EBK

The Panasonic HDC-SD100EBK is a full HD compact camcorder that comes with a 3MOS sensor for more vibrant colours, an iA/ Leica Decomar lens, an SDHC memory card slot, and the Manual ring which gives users more freedom in controlling and manipulating...

This solid state camcorder couldn’t impress us more if it was made of solid gold and came with a member of the So Solid Crew singing a little ditty about how solid it was. One of the very best Flash camcorders around. Panasonic HDC-SD100EBK is tagged...

Product Specifications

The SD100 is highly resistant to impact because it records onto SD and SDHC memory cards and thus has no moving mechanism. This plus the compact size make the SD100 ideal for casual, walk-about shooting fun. After a day of shooting, users can simply take the SD memory card from the SD100 and enjoy easy, instant large-screen viewing of stunning HD images. The SD100 features the 3MOS sensor, developed by Panasonic based on its proven 3CCD technology. Compared with a conventional 1MOS, Panasonic's 3MOS system captures more vibrant, true-to-life colors, greater detail and richer gradation. The Manual ring is provided for users who want more creative freedom in their image production. In the SD100, users can enjoy precise, responsive fingertip control over five key settings - zoom, focus, iris, shutter speed, and white balance. The iA function automatically activates several convenient shooting functions. These include advanced O.I.S., which compensates for hand-shake to eliminate blurring; Face detection, which adjusts the exposure so faces are captured perfectly; and intelligent contrast control, which helps ensure proper contrast. Also included is the intelligent scene selector, which determines the shooting conditions and automatically selects the scene setting that will provide optimal results. The Leica Dicomer lens system used in the SD100 comprises 12 lenses in 9 groups, including aspherical lenses to improve resolution and contrast and an LD (low-dispersion) lens to prevent color bleeding. Also, a special multi-coating process is applied to all lens elements to minimize chromatic aberration, so images are crisp, clear, and free of flare and ghosting. The use of a highly-refractive lens also made it possible to have both 12x zoom power and a compact body.
