Panasonic HDC-HS300

James thinks the HDC-HS300 could be the camcorder release of the year. Find out why...

When Panasonic released the HDC-SD100 and HS100, we loved the company's continued dedication to ‘prosumer' features. These camcorders were not dumbed down - in fact, they regained some of the functionality of MiniDV all-time-greats like the NV-GS400....

Panasonic HDC-HS300

The best image quality we have yet seen in a consumer HD camcorder, and a complete feature set, but it's expensive.

Panasonic HDC-HS300

Panasonic's latest may be expensive but it packs an awful lot in, as James Morris discovers

The next-generation successor to Panasonic's hard disk-based HS100 ups the stakes considerably. The HDC-HS300 doubles that model's 60GB hard disk to 120GB and, as the top AVCHD recording data rate remains the same, it can store a whopping 15 hours of...

Panasonic HDC-HS300

If you can look beyond the price you'll see the best consumer HD cam on the market right now

Peerless image quality / Enthusiast-level features / Plenty of storage

Exorbitant price

The first revelation is the HS300’s image quality. Panasonic switched from three CCDs to three CMOSes with the previous range, but kept the same small 1/6in size

Panasonic HDC-HS300 review: Panasonic HDC-HS300

Panasonic's trio of top-of-the-prosumer-line HD camcorders--the flash-based HDC-TM300 , and hard-drive-based HDC-HS300 and HDC-HS250 --in many ways vastly improve over older models such as the HS100 and SD100 . Panasonic jettisoned most of what I...

High-quality video; solid performance; electronic viewfinder; full manual feature set.

Touch screen not responsive enough.

A very good prosumer HD camcorder, the Panasonic HDC-HS300 still isn't as good a deal as the similarly featured but flash-based TM300 and has the same annoying touch-screen interface.

Panasonic HDC-HS300 Camcorder Review

The Panasonic HDC-HS300 (MSRP 1399.99) has just about everything you could want in a high-end consumer camcorder. It features a wide range of manual controls, Panasonic's popular lens ring for making adjustments, a retractable electronic viewfinder,...

The Panasonic HDC-HS300 (MSRP $1399.99) is a strong camcorder all around. Its array of manual controls, along with the inclusion of a sleek lens ring, should appeal to experienced users and traditional videographers. At the same time, the new iA...

Panasonic HDC-HS300 First Impressions Camcorder Review - HDD

The HDC-HS300 is the top-of-the-line high definition camcorder from Panasonic coming for 2009. As with last year's HDC-HS100 and HDC-SD100, Panasonic is providing users with plenty of bells and whistles for experienced videophiles: a viewfinder, lens...

Review: Panasonic HDC-HS300 HD camcorder

Panasonic's HDC-HS300 is capable of extraordinary video quality and offer a good range of manual options, with manual lens ring controls that are as easy to use as they are capable.

The HDC-HS300 also offers a maximum AVCHD video recording resolution of 1920-by-1080 at 17Mbps, which looks a lot lower than the 24Mbps that Canon uses is similarly-priced camcorders. The HDC-HS300 includes a lens ring for focusing, and other manual...

Product Specifications

The HDC-HS300 is a hybrid camcorder that records Full HD images either on an SD (or SDHC) memory card or the built-in 120GB hard disk drive. A 32-GB SDHC memory card can hold around 12 hours of recorded video clips (in HE mode). The HDC-HS300 camcorder can copy recorded video images from the SD memory card to the hard disk, or vice versa, with easy operation. The HDC-HS300 camcorder features the Full HD 3MOS sensor, developed by Panasonic based on its proven 3CCD technology. The Panasonic 3MOS sensor system captures more vibrant, true-to-life colors, greater detail and richer gradation. The iA function automatically activates several convenient shooting functions. These include Advanced O.I.S., which compensates for hand-shake to eliminate blurring; Face Detection, which adjusts the exposure so faces are captured perfectly; and Intelligent Contrast Control, which helps ensure proper contrast. Also included is the Intelligent Scene Selector, which determines the shooting conditions and automatically selects the scene setting that will provide optimal results. The Manual Ring is provided for users who want more creative freedom in their image production. With the HDC-HS300 camcorder users can enjoy precise, responsive fingertip control over five key settings - zoom, focus, iris, shutter speed, and white balance. Image sensor size has been increased from previous 1/6 inch to 1/4.1 inch. 3MOS system with 3 full-HD sensors has total pixel count of 9,150,000 pixels. While higher pixel count tends to make noise more noticeable when shooting under dim light conditions, HDC-HS300 solves this problem by using 3 high-sensitivity MOS sensors. It records beautiful images even under dim lighting while maintaining high pixel count, thus making it possible to shoot under minimum luminance of 1.6 lx.
