DJI Phantom 3 Standard review

DJI's new quadcopter makes high quality aerial footage both accessible and affordable

Value for money ; Great for those just starting out ; Simple design and operation ; Easy to fly

Uses Wi-Fi rather than Lightbridge ; Lacks the positioning cameras of the Advanced and Pro

If you were thinking about getting the Phantom 3 Pro or Advanced but were put off by the price, then the Phantom 3 Standard should make your mind up once and for all! It's affordable, easy to fly and has a good camera.

DJI Phantom 3 Standard review

A much more affordable Phantom 3, the Standard is an ideal quadcopter for beginners and has some great features, as well as a great camera. Here's our DJI Phantom 3 Standard review.

The intelligent flying modes may not be the easiest to use, but they do allow you to get smooth shots that would be near impossible with a Phantom 2. The Go app is also a huge improvement, but the biggest gains are crucially in photo and video quality....

DJI Phantom 3 Standard review

The budget Phantom camera drone jettisons some functionality, but its core greatness remains

Maintains many of its pricier brethren’s abilities ; Easy to fly ; Superb photo and video quality

Limited range compared to other Phantom 3 drones ; Simplified controller

Pretty fly for a cheap DJI

DJI Phantom 3 Standard review:

DJI's ready-to-fly Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional camera drones are remarkably simple to operate, which makes them great for people entering the hobby. What's not so great: their prices.

The DJI Phantom 3 Standard is a ready-to-fly quadcopter with a built-in camera that captures good 2.7K-resolution video that's very stable thanks to an excellent integrated three-axis gimbal. It has the Intelligent Flight Modes found on the company's...

The camera can't be removed or upgraded; landing gear doesn't collapse and isn't easily removed for travel.

For its $499 sale price, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard is the best beginner quadcopter you're going to find for the money. If and when the price jumps back to its original $799, the Standard will be a much tougher sell against DJI's other excellent models...

DJI Phantom 3 Standard

The DJI Phantom 3 Standard is aimed at drone flyers on a budget, but our pre-production test unit was hampered by a short operating distance.

Very stable in the air. Easy to fly. Smooth 2.7K video capture. 20mm wide-angle lens. Raw and JPG still capture. Relatively affordable. Built-in GPS. Return-to-home function. Automated takeoff and landing

Limited operating range. Battery life limits flying time. Wide-angle lens shows some edge distortion. Battery requires more than an hour to recharge

When DJI announced its Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced ($999.99) drones earlier this year, it should have been obvious that there was another model based simply on the product names. Now it's here. The Phantom 3 Standard ($799.99) is a...
