DJI Osmo

Simple app ; Superb handheld stabilization ; High quality 4K video

Tricky to add external audio recorder ; Minimum focus distance 1.5m ; No programmable motion

The DJI OSMO offers a whole new way of shooting video handheld. The design is simple but effective and the video quality is really good too. It's perfect for one-person videography.

DJI Osmo

The DJI Osmo ($649) wowed us at CES in 2015, earning best in show honors when it was called the DJI Inspire 1 Camera Mount. The finished product shares a lot in common with that prototype, including the same pistol grip design and bundled 4K video...

Sharp 4K footage. Raw and JPG still capture. Steadies handheld video. Directional pad for smooth camera moves. Log color profiles

Limited battery life. Poor microphone quality. Lacks close focus capability. Doesn't zoom

The DJI Osmo camcorder captures steady 4K footage, even when handheld, but battery life and audio quality are concerns.

DJI Osmo review: A hand-held stabilized camera worthy of its price

DJI's Osmo is pretty much the most complete hand-held gimbal in the market right now.

Fantastic stabilization ; Good video quality in general ; Comfortable grip ; Full-featured app

Battery life could be longer ; Videos get noisy easily ; Can't transfer 4K videos to phone ; Microphones aren't very sensitive

This may be DJI's first attempt at making a hand-held gimbal, but it's already by far one of the best, if not the best, solutions in the current market. Great stabilization, intuitive software and comfortable grip make this a fun, complete package.

DJI Osmo helps you get a grip on shaky video (hands-on)

Almost a year ago, drone-maker DJI introduced the Inspire 1, a $2,900 (£2,380, AU$4,999) quadcopter with a combination 4K-resolution camera and three-axis motorized stabilization system that's removable and replaceable.

The DJI Osmo can be ordered now direct from DJI for $650 and £550 and will begin shipping October 15. Availability and pricing for Australia wasn't immediately available, but the UK price converts to about AU$1,165. I'll be back with a full review...
