Canon ZR85

CCDType: Single CCD, Video Recording Format: DV Tape

Cheap. 20X optical zoom. Slim design with great ergonomics. Decent stills for a sub-$500 camcorder.

Video could be sharper. Bottom-loading design inconvenient with tripod. No flash for stills or lights for low-light shooting. Has manual focus but no manual focus ring. No external mic port.

The ZR85 is inexpensive, comfortable to hold, and has a powerful zoom lens, but its video comes up short.

Expert Review

The Canon ZR85 has a 1/6th-inch 680K CCD that performs relatively under normal lighting conditions, but shows a decrease in quality under lower light due to the smaller size of the camcorder and, thus, the CCD. The ZR85 has a 2.5-inch LCD with a .33...

Good Handling, -Decent Still Options, -Good video performance, -Analog to Digital Pass through, -Large optical zoom (20x)

Bad low light performance, - No S-video out, - No Mic input, but includes headphone jack

Canon ZR85 First Impressions Camcorder Review - Canon MiniDV Camcorders

On display at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show was the Canon ZR85, which is one step up from the ZR85. The most significant upgrade in middle camcorder in the ZR product line is the inclusion of an SD card for high resolution stills. The ZR85 is a...

Canon ZR85

The Canon ZR85 is a MiniDV Camcorder with a 20x Optical Zoom.

A powerful 20x optical/400x digital zoom helps you get in close, but you should also have a close look at the other features on the Canon ZR85, like the SD Memory Card slot, selectable focusing points, PCM digital sound and 2.5" LCD view screen.

Pathetic

I bought this camcorder brand new just slightly over a year ago. It worked wonderfully. The picture was sharp. Sound was great. You could even use it as a low-res still camera with the optional memory card. Unfortunately, it just decided to not eject...

Beautiful picture, great features

Absolutely pathetic durability

Good value overall for new parents

We purchased this from Ritz Camera a few months before our son was born. What appealed to me was the small size of the camera itself, the Mini-DV tapes, and that it can use a Multi Media SD card for digital still images or small video clips. After some...

Lots of digital effects, comfortable size, dual media for image/video capture

Poor placement for dual/access buttons, can mistakenly turn off auto focus easily
