Canon Optura 30

CCDType: Single CCD, Video Recording Format: DV Tape

Decent video. Full feature set. Manual focus ring provides lots of control. Intelligent hot shoe. Top-loading cassette design allows for changing tapes while using a tripod. Built-in flash. Impressive still-image capture ability.

No AF assist lamp, no audio gain control, no headlight.

A solid camcorder that shoots good video, with many features aimed at enthusiasts, who will, however wish the unit had an AF assist lamp, LED lights, and audio gain control.

Canon Optura 30 Mini DV Camcorder

After scouring the web, I came to a decision between the Sony HC42 and the Optura.

Clear picture, good-sized LCD display, good zoom quality

Eyepiece is too small, night-vision is choppy, can't use special effects without LCD display open

Superb Optics and Extensive Featureset

After my Sharp digital camcorder stopped functioning after under two years of ownership I decided it was time to invest in something a little bit more high end. I took a trip to the local electronics superstore and began browsing the camcorder section....

Compact, superb Canon optics, feature-packed, great overall performance

A little on the pricey side, non-standard lens size
