Canon Legria HF M406 review

While Canon divides its digital camera line-up into a variety of ranges - most notably EOS, PowerShot and Ixus - all of its HD camcorders bear the same Legria branding. This is a shame, as it leaves consumers without an easy shorthand to finding the...

The M-series has numerous useful features, but its video quality can't match that of Panasonic's HDC-SD800.

Canon Legria HF M406 review

Despite its fast f/1.8 lens, pro-level CMOS sensor and stabilised 10x zoom, its chunky build means the fashion conscious may be put off

Comprehensively featured yet relatively easy to use; Full HD video with stereo sound; swift button response and focus adjustment; swift and silent zooming; bright lens; stunning detail; realistic colours and expansive sound

Plasticky feel and bulkiest on test overall

Detail is stunningly clear in terms of both image and sound, with colours natural if a tad warm when left on default settings. Bluetooth wireless microphone and underwater case are optional extras for the more serious videographer.
