Canon ES8400V Hi8 Camcorder Review

Back in 1996, you could purchase a Hi8 camcorder for $2,500 and consider it a steal. Now you can get a Hi8 camcorder for less than $300 and it may or may not be a good buy. Camcorders like Canon's ES8400V are riding a sort of digital-analog cusp....

20x Optical Zoom, Mic Input, Easy To Use, Manual controls, Microphone jack, FlexiZone control, Affordable, Built-in light, FlexiZone exposure control

Low Light, LCD interferes with Set Dial, No headphone jack, Pixel count, Small viewscreen, No mic/headphone jacks, Loud tape-engaging mechanisms, Manual focus located under the LCD

The ES8400V is a solid, well put-together camcorder. It's got all the basics a beginner or casual hobbyist would need to get started. The most incredible aspect is its $299 price tag, including some nice bonus features such as a video light and PAL...

Canon ES-8400V Hi-8mm Camcorder

Very easy to learn and use. Use the A setting and learn the others when you get time. Easily hooks to vcr and allows you to dub to vhs.

None I could find.

Not Too Shabby

This camcorder is a perfect choice if you want decent quality at a low price during this period of rapid emerging digital technology. Rather than spending $1,000 to $2,000 on a digital camcorder that still records on video tape, consider purchasing a...

Canon ES8400V Hi8 w/LCD

The Canon ES8400V Hi8 w/LCD is a great camera. First and foremost it is a Canon, which means high quality craftsmanship by itself. It has 22X Optical and 800X Digital zoom power which is more than plenty. The picture quality does decrease some...

Great features, easy to use, excellent recorded picture, plenty of zoom power. Good beginner camera

Night focus could be better, but still good. Initial battery pack could last longer

Value for Money

I bought this camcorder after watching a commercial on TV in April 2002. My first experience was a good one. I had a new born baby and shooting indoors at home with the 2.5" LCD was very easy. I also quickly grasped all the features (except the...
