Sneaking in between Sony's budget deck and the wireless BDP-S760 is this Blu-ray spinner. Is it the best of the bunch?
Yet another solid Sony. Not as seductive as some in the range, perhaps, but impossible to dislike

The Sony BDP-S560 Blu-ray Disc player not only delivers terrific high-definition images, but also excels at upconverting DVDs, too.
It's not the cheapest or the most full-featured, but the Sony BDP-S560 is a good Blu-ray player.

Very traditional, the remote on the S560 doesn't have backlit buttons (which is a shame) but it's nevertheless very useful, and makes navigating the Xross Media Bar menu inherited from the PS3 very easy.
Excellent image quality and good value for money ; WiFi, DLNA compatibility - starts up in 7 seconds ; Reads and decodes all HD audio formats ; Excellent upscaling of DVDs to 1080p, with audio sync ; JPEG HD and AVCHD compatibility
No DivX compatibility, no online widgets ; No 5.1 analogue audio output ; USB input only for JPEGs
As we pointed out in the introduction to this test, Sony can't afford any mistakes with its Blu-ray disc players after pushing the format so heavily. Although the S560 doesn't have everything we'd like (no DivX, no online widgets and access only to...
We almost only gave it four stars, but the quality of the image is so high and it has so many useful features that we maintain it's worth five stars, just like its direct competitor, the Panasonic BD60.

Multimedia features for photos only, poor remote
The Sony BDP-S560 delivers very good images -- exceptional ones on DVD -- and Wi-Fi connectivity, but its poorly designed remote and lack of streaming extras hurt its value.

The Sony BDP-S560 Blu-ray player features a Wi-Fi adapter and BD-Live support, but doesn't appear to be able to match competitors for features.
The BDP-S560 also include on-board decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, but it's lacking the 7.1 analog outputs of its predecessor, the BDP-S550. The BDP-S560 will be available Q3 for AU$549.

You get more than BD-Live when you plug the BDP-S560 into your home network. If you have a computer that runs DLNA server software on your network, this player will recognize it and display the photos from that computer. It can also display photos from...

It's natural to assume that technology-initiator Sony would be a market leader in the player category, though the widespread implementation of the PS3 might be a bit of a shock. For those who weren't swayed towards using a video game machine as a...
Naturally, Sony has followed up their previous line with the S360 and their step-up model reviewed here, the S560. As with their other players, Sony's BDP-S560 naturally stand up against the company's versatile PS3 - now available as a slim, less...

Sony's new mid-level Blu-ray player offers a few noteworthy features not available in the lower-priced BDP-S360--namely, built-in WiFi and DLNA media streaming. However, this Profile 2.0 player does not provide access to a streaming video-on-demand...

The BDP-S560 lacks multichannel analog audio outputs, so it's not the best choice for someone who owns an older, non-HDMI A/V receiver ; The player lacks internal memory, so you must add your own USB device. Plus, the USB port doesn't support movie or...
