Sony BDP-S3700 review

An impressive picture and decent sound make for a good value Blu-ray player...

Detailed picture ; Solid upscaler ; Smooth motion ; Subtle contrast

Would benefit from a more dynamic sound

A low-cost home cinema setup would welcome the addition of this Blu-ray player

Sony BDP-S3700 review

With 4K Blu-ray having finally arrived in 2016 and streaming players costing as little as $30 , it seems almost "retro" to be buying a 1080p disc player these days. Or does it? Standard Blu-ray discs lack the benefits of HDR but can still look better...

The Sony BDP-S3700 Blu-ray player demonstrates good features and performance for the money. The number of streaming apps is solid, and disc loading times are fairly respectable.

Entering text in apps is laggy and frustrating. The implementation of the PlayStation Now gaming app is relatively poor.

The Sony BDP-S3700 Blu-ray player offers a lot of features for little money but a lack of input responsiveness can spoil some of the fun.

Sony BDP-S3700 review

  (Rating Hidden)

The Sony BDP-S3700 is a mid-range Blu-ray player with built-in wi-fi and smart apps. You'll also be able to connect your smartphone and cast content from it to your TV. But how well does this player do the basics, such as play Blu-ray discs and DVDs?...

Consumer review (very.co.uk)

Difficult to set up.

The booklet and Youtube videos show how easy it is to connect to a TV or other single devices, but I wanted to fit mine in with Sky box, TV and soundbar and that is a problem because the BDP=S3700 only has two connections and it means I can't get any...

Brilliant piece of kit.

Bought it to be able to view a video disc that was in mp4 format which my old player could not handle. Very easy to set up, plays the mp4 disc and has the extra bonus of being able deal with blueray discs, PLUS the streaming of Youtube etc. Excellent...

Pleased with purchase

Relatively easy to set up and so far performing well. I read the Instructions a couple of times as I'm not especially tech savvy.

Great Little Player

Bought this to replace another Sony that had stopped working. Very happy with its performance especially on the internet. Excellent picture, good sound. Surprised how small it is.
