Samsung BD-E6500 Blu-ray with Dual HDMI Inputs and WiFi Preview

While we don't think the Samsung BD-E6500 will be the next Audiophile Blu-ray player, it very well may be our next Blu-ray player. We just wish they are released a price.

Samsung BD-E6500 Blu-ray 3D Player

I've been reviewing Blu-ray players since the inception of the format in 2006, and it's amazing how far the format has come in six years. Gone are the days of seemingly endless boot-up times and glacial disc loading. The most commonplace features...

Samsung BD-E6500 Blu-ray Player Review

The Samsung BD-E6500 is one of the better performing Blu-ray players out there. Seems to have most things going for it - a UI that is very functional and looks brilliant, excellent performance and will even play back file formats that the best media...

Samsung BD-E6500 3D Blu-ray Player Reviewed

The Samsung BD-E6500 is a modern Blu-ray player, so it has all the features you would expect: 3D capability, built-in WiFi, streaming capabilities, etc. However, Adrienne Maxwell found that this Blu-ray player definitely has something unique to offer.

The BD-E6500 has two HDMI inputs, to allow for HDMI switching ; The Disc to Digital service will allow you to authorize digital copies of the discs you already own, directly from the player ; The player supports 3D playback ; 1GB of internal memory is...

The BD-E6500 lacks analog connections, so it's not the right choice for someone who owns older, non-HDMI gear ; The player does not offer 2D-to-3D conversion or advanced 3D picture adjustments ; The Web browser is much slower than the browser in new...

The BD-E6500 is very easy to set and use, has a lot of worthwhile features, and offers good performance. This player has an MSRP of $229.99 and a street price around $170. That's a pretty good value for a standalone player with 3D capability, built-in...

Easy to use but with 2 tricks

Don't try to use the initial setup screen to preform the update. Skip this update screen and do the update through the main menu. Expect the Smart apps to take several minutes to update. I like that fact that you can connect a micro computer through...

This Blu Ray player is faster that older models. It has HDMI input so that you can connect something like a micro-computer. It also has digital sound. When the dvd is dirty this player does a better job at trying to play through them rather than just...

There are 2 small tricks or quarks to this new player. First during the setup process it gives you a software update window. This window doesn't really work. Select "Don't update" and finish the setup. Then go to the update window. This update is...

Preliminary review

Before setting anything up, I connected it to the internet using a hard wire connection, plugged it into my hdmi computer monitor and applied the software upgrade.

Will take weeks to explore all the features. I like the dvd slide in insertion. The hdmi pass through seems to improve the picture from my satellite receiver. Setting it to allow hdmi1 pass through when off lets you watch what is connected to hdmi1...

Not really a con. It saved me some typing. I did have to turn on SSID broadcast to set up wifi, but once connected, it reconnects after broadcast is turned off. I'm used to having to select an option for my computers or kindle to do that
