Epson's latest colour laser may look ungainly, but Dave Stevenson finds plenty to like in other areas
Not particularly handsome, but reasonable value for workgroups who won't be printing much colour

With its boxy looks and unremitting noise, the AcuLaser doesn't make the world's best first impression. It's designed for small workgroups who occasionally need colour printing rather than single users or home offices, and it shows.
A bit of a chunker, but very fast and good for small workgroups.

Painfully slow with colour, and the quality disappoints
Other colour documents were similarly slow, and this disappointment was heightened when we saw the quality of the output. Blacks were deep enough, but visible dithering and substandard image reproduction put the Epson at the foot of the table for ...

The Macworld team take a look at six different colour laser printers, with the aim of finding one that offers good performance both for photography and business purposes; and a reasonable running cost.
The Epson is best considered a near miss for a different reason.

Fast time-to-print for a single colour page, outstanding print quality
Doesn't support Ethernet, expensive running costs
The Epson Aculaser C1100 is a good choice for low-volume colour printing, with best of breed output quality, providing you don't mind the slightly higher than average running costs and slow colour output.
Out of the box the Epson Aculaser C1100 impresses, with solid build quality and styled looks. But the breadbin format gives the Epson Aculaser C1100 a larger than average footprint, and prospective buyers will have to sacrifice more desk space...

Compared to some of the more lightweight models around, you can tell the Epson really means business as you struggle to lift all 28kg of printer out of its box. It's two to four inches larger in every direction than many other desktop colour lasers
Good print speed, Decent supplied software
Expensive to replace drum, Bulky
Fast, vivid colour, but expensive. It's bulky, too
Bucking the latest current trend for inline print cartridges, the Epson uses a full carousel for each of its four-tone cartridges. In much the same way that the Canon uses smoothing technology to boost its hardware print resolution, the Epson...

Review: Epson Aculaser C1100N laser printerBudgetcolour laserwith a network connection
Excellent mono performance, especially with small jobs ; print quality
Modest front-panel control/display ; no duplex option
A very good budget printer with a solid set of features, excellent performance and print quality and good expansion options
At £296.10, Epson's Aculaser C1100N is more expensive than Canon's Laser Shot LBP 5200, but this is due to the inclusion of the network interface denoted by the 'N' suffix. This is part of a group test on budget colour laser printers. The...

The Epson Aculaser C1100 is a surprisingly fast carousel based colour laser printer, but how does it measure up to recent competition.
The Aculaser C1100 is a well put-together colour laser at a competitive asking price. As an extra incentive, if you buy one before 31st March, Epson will throw in a Stylus C66 ink-jet for free.
Although these days it's probably better known for its range of ink-jet printers, Epson has always been a manufacturer of laser printers, too, and latterly of colour lasers. The Aculaser C1100 is close to being an entry-level machine, but is...
