iPod nano 7th generation (2012)

With fewer features than the iPod touch, the nano is a sleek, 5mm thick joy to use.

Slim body ; Responsive touchscreen ; Easy to use interface

A bit expensive ; Fairly low screen res ; Limited features

. These replace the Apple earphones that have accompanied every Apple player for years, and they have been in development for almost half a decade.

Apple iPod nano (7th gen) review

If you want a simple music player, this one's a small wonder

Intuitive and lovely to use ; sleek and attractive design ; clear and colourful picture ; sound quality is a step above previous generation

Small screen isn’t ideal for watching videos ; finger-marks on screen

An attractive and easy-to-use player that’s a definite improvement over the previous model

iPod nano 7th Generation review

Reinvented for 2012, and now with videos... again

Bluetooth ; Multi-touch ; Nike+ Fitness built-in ; FM Radio built-in ; Choice of colours

No camera ; No 3rd party apps ; No clip ; Old-style earphones

Apple seems to completely reinvent its small, slim-line iPod nano with each iteration, and 2012 has been no exception.

Apple iPod Nano (7th generation) 16GB review

  (Rating Hidden)

The iPod Nano is a tiny MP3 player. It may only weigh 30g, but the fact that it can play videos shows this is a powerful little machine. Does this come at the cost of battery life? We tested it to find out.

Apple iPod nano review (7th-gen, late-2012)

Another year or two, another look for Apple's iPod nano. This 7th generation of the slivery audio player features a bigger, longer screen, new earbuds and a new type of chargingport.

Very thin and light, 2.5in screen, improved headphones

New charge/sync port won't fit existing iPod docks

The new nano has a bigger screen than its predecessormaking it a much better bet for video watching. It makes sortingand playing your music easy when you're on the move, and it soundseven better thanks to the new EarPod earphones. The new...

iPod nano 7G

Say hello to the first new iPod nano in over two years. Apple's seventh generation pocket tune chucker keeps the touchscreen of the last model - and 16GB capacity - but changes just about everything else. The screen's wider, ushering back in the option...

There’s no doubt that this iPod nano is the best one Apple’s created - and its existence next to the iPod shuffle is once again justified. But now that it resembles the iPhone more than ever, it raises the question: why doesn’t it do more? For work out...

Apple iPod nano (2012)

The smallest proper iPod gets a video-friendly screen, Lightning and Bluetooth

Compact, smart design ; Bluetooth 4.0 is useful

Missing features from previous nano ; Screen isn't great for video

Apple's constantly-reinvented iPod nano gets a video-friendly screen and Bluetooth in its latest update. It's a user-friendly device as portable media players go, although it's missing a few features we liked on previous incarnations.

iPod nano review (2012)

If you think Apple is getting a little predictable with its yearly device refreshes, you probably haven't been charting the progress of its iPod nano.

Incredibly tiny and light ; Aluminum case feels solid, durable ; 16:9 display and video playback ; Integrated Nike+ functionality

No camera ; Expensive

Apple's latest iPod nano marks another re-design for the company's littlest player, but still it brings more to the table than any previous iteration.

Apple iPod Nano falls short in the era of the smartphone

The Apple iPod Nano has a sleek aluminum design, FM radio, Bluetooth and long battery life.

With no Wi-Fi, you're stuck syncing music via USB from a PC or Mac running iTunes. It doesn't work with Apple Music subscriptions, and the low-res screen is tiny.

The iPod Nano is an aging music player that's hurt by its outdated reliance on iTunes and lack of subscription music compatibility.

Apple iPod Nano 2015 (16GB, silver)

The current seventh-generation Nano was introduced way back in 2012, but still lists for $150 (£129, AU$219). Even with Apple's built-in pricing premium, it feels like it should cost about 40 percent less at this point.
