iPod nano 7th generation (2012)

 

With fewer features than the iPod touch, the nano is a sleek, 5mm thick joy to use.

Slim body ; Responsive touchscreen ; Easy to use interface

A bit expensive ; Fairly low screen res ; Limited features

. These replace the Apple earphones that have accompanied every Apple player for years, and they have been in development for almost half a decade.

No camera ; No 3rd party apps ; No clip ; Old-style earphones

Apple seems to completely reinvent its small, slim-line iPod nano with each iteration, and 2012 has been no exception.

With no Wi-Fi, you're stuck syncing music via USB from a PC or Mac running iTunes. It doesn't work with Apple Music subscriptions, and the low-res screen is tiny.

The iPod Nano is an aging music player that's hurt by its outdated reliance on iTunes and lack of subscription music compatibility.

The current seventh-generation Nano was introduced way back in 2012, but still lists for $150 (£129, AU$219). Even with Apple's built-in pricing premium, it feels like it should cost about 40 percent less at this point.

The Apple iPod Nano has a sleek aluminum design, FM radio, Bluetooth and long battery life.
